Formula One Game
An Overview of Formula 1 and its Implications for the Future
Codemasters is widely known for their games but their racing games have always stood above the rest.
Codemasters has always delivered a standard of quality, realism, and impressive driving mechanics to their racing games and the formula one game Formula 1 2009 is no exception.
It is one of the few games based on open wheel racing and was released for two of the most surprising platforms.
This racing genre sadly does not get as much exposure in the video game world as you might think.
Those games that are made based on it are often not true to the handling, performance, damage possibilities, and authentic tracks that make up the real life racing experience.
This formula one game is one of the most accurate to date and is based off of the most recent championship.
What’s even more surprising is that it was developed for the Nintendo Wii and the Sony PSP.
While the capabilities of both systems are good it is odd to not see the game on the Microsoft Xbox 360 and the Sony PS3.
Despite being on what many consider the lowest powered hardware the game has managed to come out beautifully.
It has many modes for both the hardcore and the easy going racing fans but the real area it excels in is its driving mechanics.
So far this game has shown the most true and accurate representation of open wheel racing mechanics to date.
The average formula one game normally doesn’t go this in depth to the need for accurate driving. In real life when one of these cars touches another there is no simple bump or gentle nudge.
What usually ensues is a mass of spinning and sometimes flipping wrecks of vehicles and shards of fiber glass car parts flying everywhere.
While the hardware that the game is on cannot render that much gratuitous detail it can still simulate the same effect.
Unlike the average formula one game if you bump someone in this your car will be in most cases severely damaged.
Weather also comes into play as the driving mechanics change to meet wet track conditions. Simply trying to run a two lap race and keep the car on the road can be more than a handful.
Make no mistake the game is fun, but it is definitely not for your average racer. Still it has multiplayer with both competitive and cooperative modes.
Aside from this you have 20 cars total on track, full pit simulations, licensed cars, and licensed tracks. For the Formula 1 fan this is the game to own.
Formula 1 2010 is set to release for the Xbox 360 and the PS3 and if Codemasters puts the same quality of work into those consoles as they did 2009 the resulting game will be fantastic.
There are no gimmicks here, no cheesy add-ons or skill points to spend. This is simply a pure racing game for the race car driver in all of us.
Formula 1 2009 is the best formula one game seen in a long time. While it may not be on the most powerful of hardware the systems do it justice and play with smooth frame rates.
When it comes to racing games what more can you ask for?
